On Tuesday, October 8, from 10:00 to 11:30, the "Orange Café (Dementia Café)" run by the Hokuryu Town Office Resident Division was held at the Hokuryu Town Commercial Facility Cocowa, where over 20 elderly people participated and had a good time.
Orange Cafe (Dementia Cafe)
The Orange Cafe is a project under the jurisdiction of the Resident Division of the Hokuryu Town Office, which started in FY2024. It is held every Tuesday (October: 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th) from 10:00 to 11:30. Care workers, public health nurses, and social workers are in charge of this program.
Participants were free to choose and implement the given theme, and returned home in groups of three.
Activities focused on dementia prevention
Activities are based on the theme of dementia prevention, and everyone enjoys spending time together interacting with each other through brain training, exercises, games, and other brain and body activities.
All the participants were healthy, cheerful, and energetic people who were clear-headed, enjoyed active conversation, and actively exercised their brains and hands.

The project is led by Nahoko Uchida, head of the Long-Term Care Prevention Section, and Mirai Ohira, a public health nurse, with the support of Masako Nakajima and Sumiko Suzuki, Hokuryu Town Dementia Community Support Promotion Officers.
On the day of the event, despite the 10:00 a.m. start time, all participants visited the site around 9:00 a.m.
The participants were so active that it was hard to believe that they were over 80 years old.

Masako Nakajima drew a rough sketch on an orange Halloween pumpkin, and everyone colored it freely with magic marker pens.

Everyone in their late 80s, full of energy, cleaned up quickly and efficiently. They cleaned up in no time at all.
The elderly people of Hokuryu Town are in full power to live a long and healthy life!
