Mayor Yutaka Sano of Hokuryu-cho New Year's Greetings 2021

Message

Happy New Year to all town residents.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you a happy and healthy New Year 2021.

Looking back on last year, it started as an Olympic year, but due to the new coronavirus, it turned out to be a year of completely unpredictable events. From the viewpoint of protecting the health and lives of the town's residents, we decided to cancel the "Sunflower Festival" and made Sunflower Village a year of rest and recuperation in preparation for the aftermath of the corona. In terms of agricultural crops, the weather was favorable, growth was generally good, there were few outbreaks of pests and diseases, and the quality of paddy rice was generally good with low protein levels. However, the quality of buckwheat was generally good due to low protein levels in paddy rice.

The town has also implemented a project to issue premium gift certificates and regional promotion coupons, as well as a project to support small and medium-sized enterprises and small-scale businesses and emergency support measures for soba production for those who have been severely affected, such as commercial and industrial enterprises and farmers. In addition, to support children's learning and improve their learning environment, we will promote a system to provide one learning terminal (PC or tablet terminal) per student at elementary and junior high schools and a high-speed, large-capacity communication network. We will continue to take measures to prevent infectious diseases and their spread, while building a system to welcome the next post-Corona era. We will continue to promote emergency dredging, riverbed excavation, and logging of standing timber through disaster prevention and disaster mitigation and national land resiliency projects.

Although the financial situation remains difficult, the "hometown support donation" is expected to exceed 500 million yen, as it did last year, due to the popularity of returned gifts such as sunflower rice and Hokuryu melons. We will continue our efforts to make Hokuryu Town known and supported by many people through attractive town development and special products.

We will continue to share our dreams and hopes, as bright and large as sunflowers, with the citizens of our town in order to realize the town development that is possible only in a small town.

In conclusion, I would like to extend my best wishes for your continued good health and happiness in the New Year.
