The Hokkaido Shimbun Digital, an Internet site operated by the Hokkaido Shimbun (Sapporo City), features an article (dated January 11) titled "National Agricultural Land Restructuring in Sorachi Province: Response to Large Plots and Improved Drainage Shorten Time, Smart Farming in Sorachi Province in the Works".

The article states, "Projects in the jurisdiction started in 1998 in the Mibagyu district (Hokuryu Town), and have been implemented in Minamihoro Town, Naganuma Town, Iwamizawa City, and other areas. The project will bring together about 0.4 hectares of farmland, which were originally scattered within one's own property, and expand each parcel to about 1.2 to 2.4 hectares, as well as develop drainage facilities and farm roads. The project cost will be approximately 90% shared by the national government and the road, and the remaining 10% will be borne by the local government and the farmers," it stated.
