Ryoji Kikura awarded the title of "Hokuryu Town Honorary Citizen" for the first time in 31 years [Hokuryu Public Relations]

We would like to introduce the article "Mr. Ryoji Kikura awarded the title of Hokuryu Town Honorary Citizen" that was published in the October issue (No. 686) of "Hokuryu Public Relations."

This is the first time in 31 years that Hokuryu Town has bestowed the title of "Honorary Citizen" on someone, since the former mayor, Shoichi Mori, was awarded the title in 1991 (Heisei 3).

Mr. Ryoji Kikura is awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of Hokuryu Town

With the consent of the city council at the third regular session of 2022, the title of honorary town resident was awarded to Mr. Ryoji Kikura, former representative director and chairman of Kitasorachi Agricultural Cooperative.

While working in the family business of farming, Mr. Kikura gained the trust of the local community through a wide range of activities, including community service and sports outreach, and was appointed director of the Hokuryu Town Agricultural Cooperative in 1973. As a leading figure in clean agriculture in the town, he worked hard to develop local agriculture, and in 1991 he was appointed representative director and chairman of the Hokuryu Town Agricultural Cooperative. After the establishment of the Kitasorachi Agricultural Cooperative, he served as representative director and executive director from February 2000, and as representative director and chairman from June 2002 until his retirement in April 2007.

Mr. Kikura's efforts were supported by local farmers, and the town was adopted as "a town that declares safe food production to protect the lives and health of its citizens." He built the foundation for the current "Hokuryu Sunflower Rice" and is loved by many farmers, making him a worthy recipient of the title of Honorary Citizen of Hokuryu Town.
