Dry-field direct seeding cultivation "Emimaru" Koki Takada, a Hokuryu-cho resident, made his first attempt!

Tuesday, May 17, 2022

Koki Takada, 46, who farms about 80 town plots in Hokuryu Town, is practicing dry-field direct seeding for the first time this year.

The area under "dry-field direct seeding" cultivation is about 4 towns, and the variety is "Emimaru," a direct-seeded rice suited to Hokkaido's climate. It is a new variety with excellent low-temperature seedling establishment and disease resistance, and is expected to expand the use of direct seeding cultivation.Reference: Hokkaido Rice LOVE(See Section 2.1.2.).

dry-field direct-seeding cultivation

Dry-field direct cultivation is a labor-saving and cost-saving technology compared to paddy rice cultivation, as it does not involve any shifting of rice.

A laser leveling machine is used to level the field, followed by seeding, compaction, and seed covering. After that, watering, herbicide spraying, and seedling cultivation are performed.

Plowing and field leveling

Field leveling is considered important for seedling establishment, water management, and weed control.

Laser leveling machine

The receiver attached to the soil removal board detects the height of the laser emitted from the laser emitter as the reference height and controls the height of the soil removal board at a constant level via the hydraulic controller.

This work has resulted in a height difference of less than 3 cm in the field.

For the purpose of stable seedling establishment and leakage prevention, "Cambridge rollers" are used for compaction.

After watering, spray herbicide and wait for budding.

I express my unbounded love, gratitude, and prayers for the new dry-field direct seeding cultivation, which will overcome the difficulties of trial and error, such as machinery malfunctions, and boldly take up the challenge and open up the way in this first attempt at cultivation.
