We would like to introduce an article (dated February 24th) published on Toyo Keizai Online, an internet site operated by Toyo Keizai Inc. (Tokyo), entitled "Hokuryu Himawari IC: Mahoroba, Vision...These innovative interchange names on expressways are so interesting."
The article states, "Hokuryu Sunflower IC is located in Hokuryu Town, Uryu District, Hokkaido. Hokuryu Town boasts the largest sunflower cultivation area in Japan, and its sunflower fields are its biggest tourist attraction, so the name of the summer flower was added after the place name."
