Agricultural Kingdom Hokkaido NEXT covers sunflower watermelon in Hokuryu Town

On Wednesday, June 11th, a broadcast interview on the Hokuryu Town sunflower watermelon by Agri Kingdom Hokkaido NEXT (HBC Hokkaido Broadcasting) was conducted at Takada Co., Ltd. (Representative: Takada Shunki).

Filming included the "Viewer Presents!" segment, a sunflower watermelon harvesting experience in a greenhouse, a sunflower watermelon polishing experience, and a sunflower watermelon tasting.

The children had the opportunity to experience harvesting while listening to a talk by Akimitsu Takada.

The Agurikko children were amazed and impressed by the producers' tireless efforts and the difficulty of the work.

When the children eat the food and say it's delicious, it soothes all the hard work that my husband and all of us staff have put in, and it gives us the motivation to keep working hard!
Takada, the union president, is enthusiastic
The number of producers is decreasing, but new farmers are now starting to cultivate. They are gradually increasing the cultivated area. A training farm has been established, and currently three trainees are studying hard. We are also constantly recruiting and making efforts to increase the number of young producers.
It is my sincere hope that throughout the long history of sunflower watermelon, we will continue to preserve the historical cultivation methods while also evolving and moving forward.
We hope that sunflower watermelon will become one of Hokuryu Town's top specialty products in the future.
