Brief explanation of the agreement
Mr. Chiaki Mori, Counselor of the Planning and Promotion Division of Hokuryu Town, explained the background, progress, and purpose of the agreement, as well as the contents of the collaboration.
The conclusion of this comprehensive agreement is aimed at contributing to the formation and development of a vibrant, unique, and rich local community by appropriately addressing local issues through comprehensive collaboration between the town of Hokuryu and Hokkaido University of Information Sciences.
Starting in 2022, Hokuryu Town will host a variety of events led by the Regional Development Cooperation Volunteers. Among them, with the cooperation of Hokkaido University of Information Science and Technology, projection mapping was implemented. This connection led to an internship agreement with Hokkaido University of Information Science and Technology starting this year.
Through these internships, we hope to increase the population involved and revitalize city planning by drawing on the perspectives of highly specialized outside young people.
Hokkaido University of Information Sciences believes that through internships, students will be able to increase their employment selection skills and deepen their ties with the local community to broaden their learning horizons and connect them to the future.
In the future, we will deepen mutual cooperation in various initiatives to revitalize local communities and solve local issues.

Yasuhiro Sasaki Mayor's Message
Nobuyuki Murakami, who is currently a community support worker and was a member of the Regional Development Cooperation Team at the time, and Yui Sasaki, who was a member of the Regional Development Cooperation Team at the time, have worked together with Hokkaido University of Information Sciences over the past three years to deepen cooperation between the two universities and have organized various events such as projection mapping, Sky Lanterns® and other tie-up events. They have organized various events in collaboration with Hokkaido University of Information Science and Technology.
Based on these projects, I met with the president of the university in May and asked him to allow me to continue to interact with the students.
Thinking ahead to the next 10 to 20 years, we discussed the possibility of concluding a comprehensive agreement with the university, and the president graciously accepted the proposal.
This agreement was reached as a result of our discussions about working hand in hand in the future," said Mayor Sasaki.
Words from President Jun Nishidaira
This year, Mayor Sasaki came to the university to give us a good grasp of the activities of the faculty and students.
The university is considering new developments for the future as we move into a new era. Regarding the content of this collaboration, although universities are essentially focused on education and human resource development, I believe that the time has come for universities to collaborate with the local community as part of their future mission.
We are very grateful to Hokuryu-cho for giving us this opportunity.
In this context, I am very much looking forward to the Hokuryu Town and our school working together as a successful model for the university and the local community. The role of universities is changing, and the mission of universities in the future will be to coexist with the local community. The development of students within the university together with the local community will be a major foundation for the future.
I would like to thank Mayor Sasaki and the members of the Regional Development Cooperation Volunteers for giving us this very good opportunity.
I believe the students will learn many things from the beautiful sunflowers. With the help of the town, we hope to have the opportunity to brighten the students' future. Thank you for your cooperation," said President Nishidaira.
