Held the 38th Hokuryu Town Sunflower Festival 2024 and Sunflower Village Opening Ceremony!
This is the opening of the 38th Hokuryu-cho Himawari Festival 2024, which will run for about a month until Sunday, August 18.

Prior to the Himawari no Sato opening ceremony, a magnificent performance by Hokuryu Taiko (represented by Yuyo Nakamura) was presented.
The two songs are "Yamabiko" and "Senrai no En (Senrai no En, a representative work of Kimihiko Matsumura of the Matsumura Group of Japanese drums).

This year will mark the 38th time the Hokuryu Town Sunflower Festival will be held.
We are holding this event to thank our seniors and the many people who have continued this event for the 38th time. We will continue to do so for our posterity.
I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation to the people of "Oowa Kogyo K.K. (Hideki Oji, President, Hokuryu Town)" who worked very hard from the spring snowmelt season to seeding of 2 million flowers on 23 hectares.
The plots in the background are still green, but yellow flowers are beginning to flicker in the plots in the back. Gradually, two million flowers are scheduled to bloom over the next month.
Where there are beautiful flowers, there are also weeds, germs, and insects. We have to manage these various things, so many people are involved in this project with a lot of hard work. Thank you very much.
The "Sunflowers of the World" grown by the students of Hokuryu Junior High School on the right side of the building are beginning to bloom beautifully. 14 varieties of sunflowers from around the world are being grown. The students also provide guided tours for tourists during the Sunflower Festival. Thank you very much.
Starting today, for 30 days, various town officials, people involved in the Sunflower Tourist Center, inside the Sunflower Maze, etc., are involved.
The Sunflower Tourism Center store sells safe and secure food products, and we encourage everyone to buy them with their wallets wide open.
I would like to wish all the tourists a pleasant and safe 30 days of the Sunflower Festival and wish you a happy opening. Thank you very much."

The town's sunflower festival attracts 200,000 to 300,000 visitors every year.
We have people from many different countries visiting us. At that time, the assistant language teacher (ALT) cell plays a very important role.
Today, the mascot character of the town of Hokuryu, "Himawari Saki," is here. The plan was for me to wear it, but I was told no because the mayor is too old and it would be too hot and I would fall ill if I went inside. So today, someone else has come in for me.
During this month, the events will continue. We will make all kinds of preparations and welcome you in town, but 'the star of the Sunflower Festival is you, the people who come!' .
