Praying for the fantastic Ezo lily! Nakajima Family Natural Garden

Tuesday, July 16, 2024

A large Uva lily growing wild along the edge of the Nakajima Family Natural Garden.

This curious lily bears 10 to 20 large greenish-white trumpet-shaped flowers at right angles to the long flower stalks.

It takes more than seven years from seed to flowering, and flowering and fruiting occur only once in a lifetime. The flowering plant will live out its life, but offspring will grow beside the original plant.

In Hokkaido, it is considered a valuable food (starch is extracted from the bulb) by the Ainu people under the name of "Tureㇷ Lady Cassowary. Incidentally, a dish made from the tureen also appears in the comic "Golden Kamuy! (Japanese only)Reference: Classilica)

And in the Tonden windbreak forest in Kita-ku, Sapporo, Hokkaido, a protected area has been established for the greater lily of the valley.

With boundless love, gratitude, and prayers, I would like to express my appreciation for having been able to witness the precious and miraculous moment of the blooming of the daylily, which only blooms and bears fruit once in a lifetime.
