An article (dated December 12th) entitled "Brown bear sightings surge in 17 cities and towns in Sorachi region this fall, the highest number in the past five years, with food shortages causing widespread outbreaks" was posted on an internet site operated by The Hokkaido Shimbun Press (Sapporo City), and we would like to introduce it to you.
The article states, "In Hokuryu Town, brown bears usually appear in specific locations, but this year they have spread over a much wider area, and people are concerned that there is a lack of manpower to patrol the area and a lack of knowledge about the box traps, which have been set for the first time."
