Monday, January 23, 2023

The 3rd Hokuryu Kendama Festival, organized by the Hokuryu Kendama Club (represented by Naoki Kishi), was held on January 21 (Sat.) at 2:00 p.m. in the large hall on the second floor of the Hokuryu Community Center under the pouring snow. About 14 energetic elementary and junior high school students and 4 adults from Hokuryu participated in the event and had a lot of fun playing kendama.

Special Damars, Captain Koyama

I have a group called Special Damars in Sapporo that meets once or twice a month. Everyone calls me "Captain. If you have any questions about techniques or tips, please feel free to ask me. I look forward to working with you," said Captain Koyama.

Today is the third installment of the 'Hokuryu Kendama Festival.' I have visited many times before, but today we have a wonderful person here, Captain Koyama, so please ask him many questions and have fun playing," said JOHN Sensei.

Explanation of the game: Representative Kishi

Today we have unicorn races and trick battles.

For the unicorn race, opponents are determined by drawing lots, and children compete one-on-one!

In the trick battle, participants had three minutes to try their hand at a trick by choosing nine tricks from a list of tricks with points indicated and writing them down on a sheet (3✕3 square sheet)!

Points are awarded for tricks completed in time!
In addition, 5 points are added per row of 9 frames per bingo!
The winner is the one with the highest final point count!

After one set, the top six places will play the final match, and medals will be awarded to the first three places.
Finally, there will be an adult trick battle, so please look forward to it," said Representative Kishi.

The 3rd Kendama Festival has come to a successful conclusion. At first, I didn't know anything about kendama, but everyone is learning more and more skills and growing up.

It is great to see the upperclassmen teaching the new juniors well. We would like to continue to hold such events in the future. Thank you very much for your time today," said Representative Kishi.

Kendama and sweets presented by Captain Koyama

At the end of the event, two kendama balls and sweets presented by Captain Koyama were handed to everyone, as well as sweets from Representative Kishi.
