Coach's Story

Yoshiki Miyazaki

Yoshiki Miyazaki, 20, coach of the Kita Sorachi J.B.C Angels, is in his third year working for the Hokuryu Town Hall General Affairs Division.

The "Kita Sorachi J.B.C. Angels" team has 25 team members in grades 2 through 6. Of these, 10 are from the town of Hokuryu, and are a mixture of boys and girls, with two girls.

Daily practice is held twice a weekday (Wed. and Fri.) from 4:00 p.m. to around 6:00 p.m. at the Imoseguro Elementary School ground. During the summer, around 7:00 pm. Matches may be played on Saturdays and Sundays.

When I first started working at the town hall, the team manager invited me to 'come and observe baseball practice. When I visited, the coach introduced me to the team members as 'Coach Miyazaki,' and I was appointed coach on the spot (laughs).

Mr. Miyazaki, a native of Amaryu Town, was a member of the "Amaryu Dragons" during his elementary school years, and spent his junior high and high school years as a baseball-oriented student as well. Yoshiki's father was a coach for the Uryu Dragons. During his time on the baseball team at Takigawa-Nishi High School in Hokkaido, Mr. Miyazaki played in the Koshien (the National High School Baseball Championship) for the third time in 19 years for Takigawa-Nishi High School.

We asked Mr. Miyazaki about his mindset as a coach.

As a coach, the most important thing is to think and teach from the perspective of the players. Since I have experienced the time when I was a player, I try not to look at things from a higher perspective just because I am a coach.

In the future, I would like to continue with my previous teaching style and do my best to guide the players in the direction they want to go.

I also want them to grow not only in baseball, but in other areas as well, so I hope to actively support them mentally as well," said Miyazaki.

Atsushi Takahashi

We then asked senior coach Jun Takahashi, 49, about his thoughts on youth baseball teams.

Jun Takahashi (Hokuryu Town Council Secretariat and Executive Director) was appointed as a coach four years ago when the boys' baseball teams of Amaryu and Hokuryu Towns merged.

I hope that many players will grow up to be energetic and fun-loving, and that they will be able to lift the team up with their hearts.

The players come from neighboring districts to play together, and although there are many challenges, they are gaining good experience.

I hope to be able to teach the players so that they can grow up to be cheerful and energetic as human beings and be accepted in society later on when they grow up," says Takahashi. I want them to learn to do what is natural and to greet people properly," says Takahashi.

We would like to congratulate all the wonderful players of the "Kita Sorachi J.B.C. Angels" on their accomplishment of winning the championship, a glorious and remarkable accomplishment!

With great love, gratitude and prayers for the youth baseball teams that gather baseball boys from each community, practice hard, and unite all the team members to push forward toward their goals.
