New Year's Card Writing: Messages that Connect the Heart

New Year's card writing is a message that connects the hearts of children to the elderly in their community, as children send their thoughts and feelings to the elderly in their community, as opportunities for the elderly living alone to interact with children have been reduced due to the effects of the Corona disaster.

Prevention of traffic accidents and special fraud

The date of the New Year's card making was also during the winter National Traffic Safety Campaign (November 13 to 22), which also serves the purpose of preventing traffic accidents and crime.

The New Year's greeting cards are written by 54 students in grades 3 through 6 at Manryu Elementary School, who write about three cards each and mail them to about 120 elderly people living alone in Hokuryu Town.

New Year's cards were donated by the Hokuryu Town Traffic Safety Association

The printed New Year's cards were donated by the Hokuryu Town Traffic Safety Association. They will then be sent out by the Hokuryu Town Hall Resident Division.

I think this is a wonderful thing because it is not often that children and the elderly have a chance to interact directly with each other. I think this is a great opportunity for the children," said Principal Matsunawa.

Keita Murakawa, homeroom teacher

The town of Hokuryu is home to many elderly people, and this year, due to the Corona disaster, they have not been able to see their families as often as in previous years.

Let's all send New Year's greetings to the elderly who are feeling lonely and alone. Let's also convey messages of traffic safety and fraud prevention," said Dr. Murakawa.

Today I would like to ask you all to write New Year's cards to the elderly who live alone. There are three things I would like you to write.

The first is "Don't get into a traffic accident,
Second, "Do not be deceived as a victim of oleo scams and other frauds,
Third, "Please write a handwritten message to your own grandfather or grandmother with your thoughts and feelings,

I hope that you will carefully write New Year's greeting cards with these three thoughts in mind," said Director Tomisho.

He suggested, "Take a hint from the example sentences and write your thoughts and feelings, arranging them in your own way.

Let's write carefully, neatly, and with correct kanji!" said Dr. Murakawa.

Impressions from the students

I don't know who will receive these New Year's cards, but I was able to write them with the feeling of sending them to my own grandparents," he said.

I really enjoyed writing New Year's cards for the elderly in the community for the first time.

This made me want to continue writing New Year's cards to the grandparents in my community.

I was nervous at first, but from the second piece, my nerves eased and I was able to write beautifully and carefully, which was good.

Dr. Murakawa's words

I think everyone was nervous about writing it because it was their first time.

When you think about New Year's greeting cards, you may be asking yourself, "Is this font size readable? "Can I use this kind of text? Can I color the picture? They worked hard to draw their New Year's cards while thinking about the feelings of the recipients.

Today, we took the opportunity of being close to the feelings of the elderly to say in our daily lives, "Good morning! Hello! I hope that the experience today will be an opportunity for us to greet and talk to the elderly in our daily lives as well.

I hope that what you did today will not end after just one session, and that you will continue to feel what you felt today for a long time to come," said Dr. Murakawa.

Thank you for a wonderful time!
