(The May 2020 issue of "Forest Recreation," the official magazine of the Japan Forest Recreation Association (headquartered in Tokyo), features an article by Dr. Terutaka Suzuki on "Design Strategies for Regional Development (3) Hokuryu Town, Hokkaido.

The May issue features a six-page color article detailing the town of Hokuryu. The June issue also features an offer from the Hokuryu Town Office to send sunflower seeds to the first 500 people who arrive at the office as "refraining from going out" to cheer up the town.

Dr. Terutaka Suzuki is the president of BEENS, a local design institute, a professor emeritus at Edogawa University, and a former specially-appointed professor at Rissho University's Faculty of Economics, where he has been involved in regional development throughout Japan.

In addition, since October 2017, he and Mr. Makoto Umehara of Umehara Design Office (who lives in Kochi Prefecture) have been appointed as "Sunflower Tourism Ambassadors of Hokuryu Town, Hokkaido." Furthermore, as the chairman of the "Sunflower Village Basic Plan Formulation Committee," he is making efforts to formulate a basic plan for the town's tourism hub.
