Hokuryu Town, Hokkaido, is a town of sunflowers. It may be a small town with a population of just 1,600, but it is home to a vast expanse of land that stretches out as far as the eye can see, and the heartwarming stories of the people who live there.
"Food is life" is a philosophy deeply rooted in this town, and the spirit of "harmony" and "compassion" lives in daily life.
My husband and I are deeply moved by each and every one of these experiences, and since 2010 we have continued to share the town's stories through this website.
Our unchanging wish is that the warmth of this small town will reach your heart and spread to the world as a small "share of joy."

On Thursday, August 14, 2025, the Kita Sorachi Shimbun, an internet site operated by the Kita Sorachi Shimbun Company (Fukagawa City), published an article titled "Hokuryu's 'Sunflower Walk Rally': Strolling around the 'Sunflower Village' using the app" (dated August 13).
Friday, August 15, 2025: Yukio Takada, Chairman of the Kurosengoku Business Cooperative Association, which revived the legendary Kurosengoku soybean, received the Hokkaido Industrial Contribution Award (Hokkaido) for FY2025 and the Hokkaido Federation of Small and Medium Enterprises Associations 70th Anniversary Commemorative Award.
On August 8th (Friday), Hokuryu Town signed a comprehensive partnership agreement with Hokkaido University of Science for urban development. The agreement will leverage the university's expertise in architecture, disaster prevention, medical care, and other fields, as well as the young students of the Faculty of Regional Creation, which is scheduled to be established in 2027.
