It is New Year's Day in the year 2021, the year of the Ox. This New Year's Day was a bitterly cold morning with temperatures reaching 20 degrees below zero.

Last year (2020) was a very difficult year that began with the Corona disaster and ended in the vortex of the Corona, which changed our society, economy, and daily life.

Visit to Shinryu Shrine

New Year's Day in 2021 at Shinryu Shrine

At 7:00 a.m., about 25 town residents gather at the Shinryu Shrine to pray for a good harvest, traffic safety, disaster prevention, and family safety, as well as for the eradication of plague and disease.

新年に感謝をこめて参拝!
Worship with thanksgiving in the New Year!
お神酒で乾杯!
Toast with sake!
皆さん揃って!
All of you together!

New Year's Day Marathon running at your own pace

After the visit to the shrine, everyone gathers in front of the Hokuryu Fire Hall and starts running together wearing the yellow "Traffic Safety" sash! Everyone ran through the streets in groups of three, each according to his or her physical condition.

Accompanying the police car for traffic safety was Atsushi Ito, Director of Hekisui Police Station.

The annual New Year's party was cancelled this year due to the Corona disaster.
At the start of the new year, we earnestly wish for a good harvest, traffic safety, and family safety, as well as for the eradication of plague and disease,
With boundless love, gratitude, and prayers for the New Year's Day Marathon, which will pray for the dawn of a shining new era.
