On August 5 (Mon.) from 10:00 a.m., the town of Hokuryu (Mayor Yasuhiro Sasaki) and SOMPO Himawari Life Insurance Company (President Yasuhiro Oba) signed a "Comprehensive Collaboration Agreement" and held a ceremony at the reception room on the first floor of the Hokuryu Town Sukoyaka Center.

Brief explanation of the agreement
An overview was given by Mr. Katsuyoshi Takahashi, Director of Policy Management. He explained the background and progress of the agreement, its objectives, contents of collaboration, and future development.
The comprehensive cooperation agreement is intended to promote mutual collaboration and respond to community needs, thereby revitalizing the community, improving residents' welfare services, and promoting health and wellness.
Since last year 2023, Hokuryu Town has been implementing initiatives utilizing health support services such as Link Cross Arc, a strolling application provided by SOMPO Himawari Life Insurance Co.
SOMPO Himawari Life Insurance Co., Ltd. has a vision of establishing itself as a "health-supporting company" and offers "Insurhealth," a new value that combines the essential functions of insurance with those of health support.
The agreement was reached as a result of mutual support for both Hokuryu Town's "health promotion efforts" and SOMPO Himawari Life Insurance Company's "establishment of a health-supporting company.
Collaboration includes health promotion, safe and secure community development, SDG's, and promotion of lifelong learning.

It was 29 years ago (since 1997) that SOMPO Himawari Life Insurance Co. Because of the "Himawari" connection, Mayor Sasaki has been thinking about concluding a contract with SOMPO Himawari Life Insurance Co. for over 20 years.
Message from Mayor Sasaki
Hokuryu Town has been producing safe and secure food for 40 to 50 years. That is the selling point of Hokuryu Town. In line with that, we have a history of community development, having grown sunflowers for 44 years.
The history and history of the town matched with SOMPO Himawari Life Insurance Company, Ltd. as a company that promotes health promotion, and we concluded the agreement to work together. We are strongly committed to working together with the residents of the town and with SOMPO Himawari Life Insurance Company. We hope that today will be a good opportunity for us to further extend our relationship.

I would like to hold seminars on various occasions for people of all ages. We would like to hold seminars on various occasions for all generations. Nationally, we are conducting them in elementary, middle, high schools, and even universities.
We hope to conduct this program in Hokuryu Town and at elementary and middle schools. We would like to provide real expertise in health literacy and other areas unique to the elderly.
We provide our customers with insurance for emergencies, but we also aim to extend the healthy life expectancy of as many people as possible as a "health-supporting company".
As the head of the Hokkaido General Affairs Department, I have set as my major mission what I can do for the people of Hokkaido.
We believe that our primary job is to spread the word about our knowledge.
I believe that this will be the first model pattern of health promotion for insurance companies to conclude with local governments. We aim to build various things with each other in the future and continue to evolve that model," said Director Ito.

The reason for this agreement was the affinity between the company name "Himawari" and the town of Hokuryu. We proposed the idea of a partnership in the form of health support.
You can set up a course in your area on our walking application. You can create a course that circles sunflower fields in the Sunflower Village, and enjoy walking around the course while checking your location with GPS location information. The app can manage the number of steps.
This time, "Sunflower Walk Rally" will be held during the Sunflower Festival, setting aside three days from August 8 (Thu.) to 10 (Sat.), 10:00-16:00. Those who walk through the Sunflower Village with the dedicated application and reach the goal will be able to turn a gacha-gacha (a Japanese pinball machine) and will receive a gift. The distance is 1.6 km (about 20 minutes on foot)," explained Chief Honma.
