The painting was donated to Hokuryu-cho on Tuesday, September 15, with the wish that the town will grow like a rising dragon.

Mr. Yoshio Ayabe, 79, was Noboru & Ikuko Terauchi's art teacher in junior high school. At the time, Noboru was a member of the six-man "volleyball club," and his advisor and coach was Mr. Ayabe. He was thoroughly disciplined by Mr. Ayabe, who was a devil of a coach.

Mr. Ayabe has been painting the "Kurayami Matsuri" festival at Okunitama Shrine in Fuchu City, Tokyo, for more than 50 years.

Reason for donation

Three years ago in 2017, five of my classmates from Fuchu Daigo Junior High School (Fuchu City, Tokyo) and my former teacher, Mr. Ayabe, came to Hokkaido on a trip and visited Hokuryu-cho.

Subsequently, Noboru created a website for Dr. Ayabe, and they continue to communicate with each other to this day.

In a phone conversation one day, when I mentioned that the volunteers of Hokuryu Town had organized a celebration for our 10th anniversary of moving here, he was very moved and said, "Hokuryu Town is a wonderful town! He was very moved.

We received a very kind offer: "In these days of the Corona disaster, we would like to donate an ink drawing of a 'rising dragon' to the town to pray for the eradication of the plague and the development of the town of Hokuryu.
