Greetings from the commissioner: Mr. Yutaka Sano (Mayor of Hokuryu Town)
I am delighted to see the historical and traditional Hokuryu Fire Drill being held here today as a commemorative event for the 110th anniversary of the Hokuryu Fire Company, with many distinguished guests from within and outside of the town.
I would like to express my deep respect and gratitude to all the firefighters who, under the command of Commander Nakayama, have been making tremendous efforts day and night in the local preventive firefighting operations to cover the lives and property of the town's residents.
We look forward to a successful conference, in which the results of your daily training will be demonstrated without regret.
In recent years, extreme weather conditions have increased, and there is no end to the damage caused by natural disasters such as earthquakes, typhoons, tornadoes, torrential rains, landslides, and so on, resulting in the loss of many lives and property.
Fire departments are required to respond to a wide variety of situations in response to the current circumstances, such as natural disasters caused by earthquakes and floods, vehicle accidents, and emergencies due to public protection, not to mention disasters that occur on a daily basis, and expectations for fire departments are growing ever higher.
Last year, Hokuryu Town is also working to strengthen its firefighting equipment and facilities by updating its command and public information vehicle, introducing a disaster drone, and installing two earthquake-proof firewater tanks.
When a disaster strikes, I would like to reiterate my request that all members of the fire brigade respond quickly with the skills they have cultivated through training, utilizing new firefighting equipment, to fulfill the trust placed in them by local residents.
In conclusion, we would like to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to the Fire Supporters' Association and traffic safety instructors for their cooperation in this exercise, and to the Hokuryu Junior High School Brass Band and the Yawara Nursery School Children's Firefighting Club for their contributions to the exercise today.
I would like to conclude my address by extending my best wishes for the continued good health of all the distinguished guests present here today. I will now conclude," said Commissioner Sano.

Comment by the Chief Supervisor: Mr. Shigeyuki Nakayama, Chief Supervisor
I would like to express my gratitude to all the members who, in the midst of their day jobs, fully demonstrated the fruits of their daily training and achieved the results of the commemorative exercise marking the 110th anniversary of the founding of the Hoku Ryu Fire Brigade.
We also believe that today's exercise had a significant effect on improving the acquisition of basic skills against disasters.
We, the firefighters, will take this exercise as an opportunity to further devote ourselves to meeting the expectations of the local residents and are prepared to face any disaster.
In addition, three female firefighters have joined our fire brigade as of June 1. We hope that the female members will focus on educational activities to raise the awareness of fire prevention among the town residents and make the town a disaster-free and comfortable place to live.
Lastly, I would like to thank all the distinguished guests for taking time out of their busy schedules to attend our performance. I would also like to thank the members of the Yawara Nursery School Children's Fire Brigade Club and the Hokuryu Junior High School Brass Band Club.
