The October issue (No. 686) of "Kohoku Ryu" (public relations magazine) featured an article titled "Mr. Ryoji Kikura was awarded the title of Honorary Town Citizen of Hokuryu Town".
This is the first time in 31 years that Hokuryu Town has conferred the title of "Honorary Town Citizen" since 1991, when it was awarded to former Mayor Shoichi Mori.
Ryoji Kikura was awarded the title of Honorary Town Citizen of Hokuryu Town.
At the 3rd regular meeting in 2022, the council gave its consent to Mr. Ryoji Kikura, former president of Kitasorachi Agricultural Cooperative Association, to be named an honorary town resident.
While engaged in his family's farming business, Mr. Kikura gained the trust of the community through a wide range of activities, including community service and sports promotion activities. As a leader of clean agriculture in the town, he has worked for the development of local agriculture, and in 1991, he was appointed as the President of the Hokuryu Agricultural Cooperative Association. After the establishment of the Kitasorachi Agricultural Cooperative, he served as the Representative Director and Senior Managing Director from February 2000, and from June 2002 until his retirement in April 2007, he demonstrated his ability as the Representative Director and President of the cooperative.
Mr. Kikura's efforts were endorsed by the town's farmers and adopted as the "Town of Safe Food Production Declaration to Protect the Lives and Health of the People", building the foundation of the current "Hokuryu Sunflower Rice", and he is also well respected by many farmers, making him a worthy recipient of the title of Honorary Town Citizen of Hokuryu Town, which has now been awarded.
