Sunflower Blossom
In November 1990, a call was made for a sunflower character, and in March 1991, the design by Hiroe Kamono, a member of the town's Kyoei neighborhood association, was adopted.

During the 2013 budget assessment, Mr. Makoto Takagi, then of the JA Kitasorachi Hokuryu Branch's Agriculture Division, and Mr. Hirotaka Okubo, then head of the Hokuryu Branch, came to us with a petition for assistance in creating a North Dragon to promote the town and its rice and other specialty products. This was an idea that Mr. Takagi had been warming up to.
The JA Youth Club took the lead, and the Hokuryu Town Chamber of Commerce and Industry Youth Club and young town hall employees decided to work together to implement the program.
