With gratitude for Sasazushi!

Monday, September 11, 2023

Saturday, September 9, is the Autumn Festival of Shinryu Shrine in Hokuryu Town.
This festival celebrates the bountiful harvest of the fruitful autumn and expresses gratitude to the gods of nature for their blessings.

On this day every year, our neighbors, Hisashi and Kiyomi Kitajima, make sasa-sushi by hand. They were so gracious to share their heart-felt and sacred sasabushi with us. Thank you!

Sasabushi, carefully wrapped in local bamboo leaves, features vinegared salmon and mackerel.
This is an exquisite sasabushi with just the right amount of vinegar!

Thanks to the blessings of autumn, we enjoyed the best of the best.
Thank you very much! Thanks for the food!
