Encounter with Projection Mapping at Hokkaido University of Information Sciences
The Hokkaido University of Information Science and Technology projection mapping was planned by Mr. Nobuyuki Murakami (69) and Ms. Yui Sasaki (22), both members of the Hokuryu Town Community Development Cooperation Team, and was made possible through collaboration with the Hokkaido University of Information Science and Technology.

In thinking of an unprecedented event for Hokuryu Town, we learned that students from Hokkaido University of Information Science and Technology would be conducting projection mapping at the Snow Festival.
I approached them with a "no-brainer" approach, and they agreed, so the project was realized. The timing was right, as the University of Information Science and Technology had been suspended for two years due to the Corona disaster," says Murakami.
Yui Sasaki, a member of the Hokuryu Town Community Development Cooperation Volunteers
When we told them about Hokuryu Taiko, they immediately thought it would be interesting to collaborate with taiko because it had never been done before.
I believe that the work conveys the fun of projection mapping while also having the character of Hokuryu Town.
I hope that this projection mapping will help people who know the name of the projection mapping but have never seen it before to learn what it is, and at the same time, enhance their image of Hokuryu Town and give them an exciting and thrilling experience," said Sasaki.
Coming to town for video confirmation and sound matching test: October 10 (holiday Monday)
On October 10 (national holiday), prior to the actual performance, Associate Professor Oshima of Hokkaido University of Information Science and Technology and nine students from his seminar visited the town for a meeting. The projection was projected on the shutters of the Himawari Sightseeing Center in Hokuryu-cho, and the sound was matched with Hokuryu Taiko drumming.
Projection mapping live projection: Saturday, October 15
On the day of the 15th, more than 100 people, mostly local residents, gathered at the venue in Sunflower Park Hokuryu Onsen to share in the excitement, applauding and cheering at the fantastic images in collaboration with the sound of Hokuryu taiko drums.
Projection on the wall of Sunflower Park Hotel (40m wide and 10m high)
Projection mapping is a technology that uses projectors and other projection equipment to project three-dimensional images onto buildings.
The building for this projection was the Sunflower Park Hotel, where three-dimensional images were projected onto the entire wall (40 m wide and 10 m high) of the building for lodging and other purposes.
Characteristic of Hokuryu Town
Under the guidance of Associate Professor Keitaro Oshima and Lecturer Dai Kawahara, nine students created the projected images as part of their seminar activities at Hokkaido University of Information Sciences, combining animated images of Hokuryu Town.
The animation of girls beating taiko drums to the sound of Hokuryu Taiko drums demonstrated on the spot, images of sunflower fields, the appearance of Hokuryu Town's local squadron heroes with the theme song "Agri-Fighter North Dragon," and the cute Hokuryu Town character "Himawari Sakii-chan" appearing from the Sunflower Park Hotel window are just a few of the images that express the Hokuryu Town character. The theme song "Agri-Fighter North Dragon" is sung along with the images of Hokuryu-machi's local heroes.

Mysterious collaboration of Hokuryu Taiko's performance "Ryusho" and video images
The Hokuryu Taiko piece "Ryusho" will be played along with the video!
Light images shooting wildly as if beating to the sound of Hokuryu drums echoing valiantly!
The sound of the live taiko drumming, which can only be felt on site, resonates in tune with the heart, shakes the whole body, and interweaves with the three-dimensional light images!
Associate Professor Keitaro Oshima, Faculty of Information and Media Studies, Hokkaido University of Information Sciences (in charge of video production)
The collaboration with Hokuryu Taiko is a rare and almost unheard of initiative, and I think it's quite interesting.
This work is a combination of animation and taiko performance. We created the animation video to match the footage of past taiko performances that we borrowed. The actual performance changes each time, so we adjusted the speed of the video to match the sound of the performance.
On the first day of the event, we were in a hurry due to unexpected problems just before the start of the event, but I think the students grew a little through the experience of the event's unique "shuraba" (rough-and-tumble) situation.
I would like to apologize to all the visitors for making them wait. I would also like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the many people who came to see our exhibition.
We wish to express our infinite love, gratitude and prayers to the great projection mapping that will take us to a mysterious parallel world.
