4Mr. Susumu Yotsuji, an agricultural cooperative employee who participated in a study tour of Europe, saw the sunflower fields around Belgrade Airport in the former Yugoslavia and, noting the beauty of the scenery and the potential of sunflowers as a health food, which was the purpose of their cultivation, started a campaign to improve dietary habits based on a self-sufficiency movement by the women's club of an agricultural cooperative in Hokuryu Town. The campaign to plant sunflowers "one hectare per household" began as part of the "Movement to Protect the Health of the Family" movement.
