On Tuesday, September 7, harvesting of sake rice began in the Kosaku district! This year, the harvest took place about a week earlier than last year.
At the Kosaku Rice Center, two farmers, Yasunori Watanabe and Mamoru Hiraba, grow sake rice over three towns.
Four combine harvesters are in full operation in the active rice paddies! Sake rice harvesting will be completed in one day today.
Sake rice is dried more slowly than Uruchi rice, so it is dried in a dryer at the rice center for about one and a half days after harvest. The sake rice "Comet" is brewed at Kinjitake Sake Brewery (Shintotsukawa Town) to produce "Hokuryu Comet," a special junmai sake. We are looking forward to this year's "Hokuryu Comet.
The first shipment of 2021 rice will be held on September 10 (Fri.) at the JA Kitasorachi Hokuryu branch office and produce collection and shipment facility.
