Colorful Kotobuki Oshizushi: New Year's prayers and the spirit of harmony

Tuesday, January 6, 2026

The first three days of the New Year have passed, and quiet times have returned to Hokuryu Town. While savoring the flavors of the New Year's dishes, people made colorful "Kotobuki Oshizushi" (pressed sushi) in hopes of good health and happiness for the coming year.

The ingredients that decorate the pressed sushi include sweetly simmered shiitake mushrooms, golden datemaki, red and white kamaboko, and glossy black beans.

Each ingredient is not just a food ingredient, but a lucky charm for the New Year, with wishes such as "longevity" and "living a healthy life" imbued into it.

"May this year be peaceful," is the prayer that is sung at the fingertips as the pressed sushi is carefully shaped, decorated with color, and made with sincerity.

Enjoy this oshizushi slowly and carefully along with sumptuous New Year's dishes during the first three days of the year. Even if it's snowing outside, the table will be filled with spring-like colors, creating a heartwarming and blissful moment.

"Eating is receiving life and sustaining life."

I would like to take one step at a time into the new year, grateful for the abundant blessings of Hokuryu Town and the handiwork of the people who have inherited them.

A quiet and peaceful moment to cherish the life of food, with boundless love, gratitude and prayers!
