Next up was the "Nagashi Somen" (flowing noodles). The lively voices of children shouting "Thank you for coming!" rang out!

Preparation by Kimimasa Mikami and Osamu Kato

The "Nagashi Somen Set" was prepared by two volunteers, Mr. Kimimasa Mikami and Mr. Osamu Kato, both residents of Hokuryu Town.

"Nursery schools have been holding 'nagashi somen' (flowing noodles) events for about 10 years, but we started it again at Yawara Nursery School last year and it was well received, so we held it again this year."

Nagashi somen set

"About 10 years ago, a friend from Miyagi Prefecture brought in two natural bamboo stalks, each about 12 meters long, in a large truck.

"At the time, Kato and I were talking about how it would be fun to use this bamboo for 'nagashi somen' (flowing noodles). The bamboo was processed for making somen noodles. The remaining bamboo was used for drumming practice," Mikami said.

In the garden of the school, natural bamboo has been split in half, and long bamboo poles have been removed to support it, and everything is ready to go!
