"Eat lunch together" with first and second graders from Shinryu Elementary School, Board of Education Superintendent Tanaka Yoshiki, and all those involved!

Monday, May 19, 2025

On Wednesday, May 14th, Shinryu Elementary School invited members of the Board of Education (including Chairman Tanaka) to join the first and second grade students for lunch.

On the day before lunch, the first graders had a class on "matching games," and the second graders had a class on "exploring the town and making a map of Hokuryu Town" in their life studies class.

1st grade class: Matching game

The "matching game" for first graders is a game-like learning experience designed to develop counting skills and memory.

Cards with their pictures turned upside down are lined up on the blackboard, and students choose which card is which from the right (left), turn it over, and if the picture is the same, they win!

On Monday, May 12th, the children walked around Hokuryu Town using a map created by the teacher. They took photos while placing red stickers of the places they visited on the map.

Each student was assigned a building and, based on a photo of the place they were visiting, they drew it on a small piece of paper with colored pencils. They then discussed the drawings and pasted them onto the map.

Lunch duty

Lunch duty is assigned to students from the first grade onwards, which helps to develop a sense of responsibility, cooperation and independence.

Students on duty wear colorful aprons and hats and serve the food. They are divided into a "carrying and serving group" and a "distribution group."

The student on duty carefully pours the soup, side dishes (main and side dishes), and rice (noodles) into the dishes, distributes the side dish dishes, and slowly places milk, straws, etc. at each table.

Delicious food and fun conversation

"I love ramen!"
"Do you like miso ramen or soy sauce?"
"Let's put the croquette side dish into ramen and make croquette ramen!"
"The croquette is big, so we'll share half!"
"XX always finishes his meal! That's amazing!"
"I'm so full! It was delicious!"

The students eat as much as they can comfortably eat and enjoy a delicious lunchtime meal.

Lunchtime is conducted at a relaxed pace within the allotted time, without forcing students to leave food or finish eating by a certain time.

Cleaning up

  • Put the noodle packets in a special bag.
  • Each student opens the folded top and bottom of the empty milk carton, flattens it, and places it in a plastic bag made specifically for milk cartons.
  • Put leftovers in the pot and organize your dishes.

Lunchtime ends with the day's duty teacher shouting, "Attention!" and "Thank you for the meal!"

Even the first-year students are assigned individual duties, and they strictly follow the rules and fulfill their roles to the fullest!!!

With boundless love, gratitude, and prayers, we offer school lunches, an important time for children to enjoy delicious and enjoyable food that will help them grow healthy both physically and mentally.
