Approximately 300 boxes sold out in 30 minutes! Sunflower Watermelon direct sale was a huge success with long lines forming from early in the morning
The watermelon direct sale event "Hokuryu Town Melon and Watermelon Festival 2025" was held at the JA Kitasorachi Hokuryu Branch's agricultural produce collection and shipping facility sorting facility from 8:30am on Thursday, August 14th. Many people attended and it was a huge success!
A line formed from 6am! About 300 boxes sold out in 30 minutes
A long line had already formed at the venue before sales began at 8:30 a.m. The first person to arrive had apparently left home in Asahikawa at 5 a.m. and been lining up since 6 a.m. 300 boxes of "Sunflower Watermelon," a small yellow watermelon that is a specialty of Hokuryu Town, had been prepared for the day and were quickly sold out in just 30 minutes after sales began.
This year's watermelons boast exceptional sweetness, exceeding the average with a sugar content of over 12 degrees. Various boxes were prepared depending on the grade and number of fruit, and visitors bought several boxes at once and made arrangements to have them shipped to their loved ones.

After the start, the number of people allowed into the sales area was limited to 20 people at a time to avoid overcrowding.

After the Watermelon Festival, a celebratory barbecue social gathering was held by the members of the Sunflower Watermelon Producers Association.
The producers lovingly cultivated the watermelons and delivered a wonderful festival. In a friendly atmosphere, everyone appreciated each other's efforts and recharged their energy for the coming year.
