Mayor Yasuhiro Sasaki explores the charms of Hokuryu Town [June 2024]

On Tuesday, June 4th, Mayor Sasaki Yasuhiro conducted his June inspection of Hokuryu Town.

The Nanba family's home with its beautiful moss pinks

The first place we visited was the home of Mr. and Mrs. Nanba. They have beautiful moss phlox growing all over their garden. A photo of this garden was featured in the June issue of Hokkaido Jalan as one of the "35 Most Beautiful Sceneries in Hokkaido." To commemorate the occasion, we presented them with a copy of the Hokkaido Jalan magazine and a photo of the lovely couple.

Mr. and Mrs. Minami were surprised and nervous at Mayor Sasaki's sudden visit, but they spoke happily.

Energetic! Morimori Exercise Class (Hekisui Community Support Center)

The next place they visited was the Hekisui Community Support Center.

They visited and participated in the "Energetic! Morimori Exercise Class" held every Tuesday morning and afternoon.

N-link. (Numata Town)

The lecturer will be Hiromi Morita, Representative Director of N-link. (Numata Town) Incorporated Association.

Morita holds many qualifications, including a health exercise instructor, school sports club instructor, Japan Sport Association certified assistant manager, and Japan Sport Association certified volleyball coach.

Participants' blood pressure will be measured as a pre-exercise health check.

Brain training exercises

This is an exercise that involves moving your arms and legs while sitting in a chair.
A brain training exercise that involves moving your body rhythmically by using both hands in different movements.

The brain becomes confused by the movements of the limbs, which normally don't move at the same time!
It seems easy but it's difficult!
Even if I understand it intellectually, my body doesn't move the way I want it to...
It's easy once you get used to it! It's a healthy exercise that helps prevent dementia!

Seriously fun!!!

This is a "healthy and energetic exercise" that you can enjoy rhythmically while laughing and singing, while struggling with the mismatched movements of your arms and legs.

Mayor Sasaki enjoyed some exercises with everyone for about 15 minutes before moving on to the next location.

Honoka Agricultural Cooperative (Biba Beef)

We then visited Honoka Agricultural Cooperative.

We had a friendly exchange with veteran union members and newcomer Hideyuki Suzuki, who is in his first year of farming!

"I've tried driving a variety of vehicles, including tractors and rice planters! It's hard work, but it's fun to take on new challenges!"

These are the crops of Hokuryu Town that are grown in the majestic natural environment, with pure water, fertile soil, and refreshing breezes!

First tasting of Hokuryu Town's specialty "Sunflower Watermelon" this year

Returning to the town hall, the group sampled the "Sunflower Watermelon," a Hokuryu Town specialty, before its first shipment. These were freshly picked "Sunflower Watermelons" from Takada Co., Ltd.

Vice Principal Kitagawa Goji of Shinryu Elementary School, who happened to be visiting the town hall, also joined in the copying!

"Hokuryu Town sunflower watermelon! Sweet! Delicious!"

The whole town is connected like a family, cooperating with one another and sharing both hardships and joys - this is the noble spirit of Hokuryu.

With boundless love, gratitude, and prayers for the delicious, healthy crops that grow thriving in the rich natural environment of Hokuryu Town, receiving the love and affection of the producers...
