We would like to introduce an article (dated January 11th) published on the Hokkaido Shimbun Digital website operated by the Hokkaido Shimbun (Sapporo City) entitled "Reorganization of state-run farmland in Sorachi region showing progress; large plots and improved drainage reduce farming time; smart agriculture also in sight."
The article states, "The project within the jurisdiction began in 1998 in the Mibaushi district (Hokuryu Town), and will be carried out in Minamihoro Town, Naganuma Town, Iwamizawa City, and other areas. Farmland of about 0.4 hectares, which was originally scattered across each farmer's property, will be consolidated and expanded to approximately 1.2 to 2.4 hectares per plot, and drainage systems and farm roads will also be constructed. The national and prefectural governments will cover about 90% of the project costs, with the remaining 10% being borne by local governments and farmers."
