59th Hokusho Road Race Tournament 2023 Event Guidelines
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this tournament could not be held for a long time, but it will be held for the first time in four years!
Why not take a refreshing run through the sunflower village, promoting good harvests, good health, and deepening friendships while enjoying the clean scenery of Hokuryu Town, the "sunflower town" with the sun on your side?

Sunday, August 20, 2023
- Reception starts at 6:30
*Please finish accepting reservations by 8:30am.
*Please note that, excluding delays due to queues at the reception on the day, if you check in after the above time, you may not be able to participate in the tournament.
- Opening ceremony 08:15 (scheduled)
- Start time: 9:00 (10km/5km)
09:15 (3km x 3km pair) - Award ceremony after each competition
4. Venue
Hokuryu Town Sunflower Village (next to Hokuryu Junior High School)
5. Events
- 10km: General men and women (high school students and above)
- 5km: Adults (high school students and above), Junior high school students (parental consent required)
- 3km: General public (high school students and above), elementary school students (no gender or grade restrictions) (parental consent required)
- 3km Parent-child pairs (parents and grandparents): Children must be in the third grade of elementary school or younger, and parent-child pairs must hold hands and reach the finish line.
6. Number of applicants/participation fee
Adult men and women: 3,000 yen, 3km: pair 3,500 yen, elementary and junior high school students: 1,000 yen
*The total capacity for all events, excluding the 3km Pair event, is planned to be 300 people, and once this capacity is reached, registration will close.
7. Pledges and Notes
Pledge
I agree to the following pledges and will participate in this tournament.
- I hereby pledge to take full responsibility for any accidents that occur during the tournament that are my fault. (Middle school students and younger must have a guardian's signature; there is a space for guardians to fill out the transfer form.)
- False declaration of age or gender, or participation by anyone other than the person in question (illegible entry) will not be accepted and will result in cancellation.
- The rights to publish videos, photos, articles, records, etc. of the competition on television, in newspapers, magazines, on the Internet, etc. belong to the organizer.
- Participation fees will not be refunded after registration (except for applications due to capacity).
Precautions
I agree to the following terms and conditions and will participate in this tournament.
- As the organizers, we will take every possible measure to prevent accidents by stationing voluntary traffic controllers at key locations, but we ask that participants and supporters also follow traffic rules and cooperate to avoid accidents.
Please be careful when driving as there may be tourists crossing the road during the Sunflower Festival. - Supporters are not allowed to accompany the runners. Thank you for your cooperation.
- The organizers will not be held responsible for any accidents that occur during the competition, so please take out personal accident insurance, take care of your health, and enjoy the event.
- If the event is cancelled on the day due to a typhoon, major earthquake, heavy rain or landslide warning, etc., we will announce this on the Hokuryu Town Portal. Please note that we will not be able to refund the participation fee, but participation prizes will be distributed at the venue during the registration period. Please note that we will not refund participation cancellations after application or absences on the day.
8. Time Limit
2 hours (from the starting gun)
* Competitors who exceed the time limit may be asked to stop the race. In that case, please follow the instructions of the race staff and get back in your car.
9. How to apply
Postal transfer: Please fill in the attached transfer form and pay the participation fee.
* Minors must apply with parental consent.
* Please contact the following number to request a transfer form.
10. Application Period
From Thursday, June 1, 2023 to Friday, July 7, 2023
* Transfers must be postmarked on the same day.
*Even if you request it in advance, the transfer form will be sent in June.
*After the application period ends, a reception slip will be mailed to all participants.
If you do not receive your application after the application period has ended, please contact the secretariat.
11. Awards
Top 4 in each category (Prizes include 10kg to 2kg of Hokuryu Town rice)
Awards will be given to the top three elementary and junior high school students
* All participants will receive a commemorative towel (elementary and junior high school students will receive a book voucher).
* Elementary school students in a 3km pair will receive a book voucher
*Completion certificate will be given to you on the day.
* A "record list" will be posted after the competition is over.

Automatic measurement
・Measurements are taken using a timing chip. Please attach the chip to your shoelaces.
・For parent-child pairs, the parent must wear the chip.
・A chip collection box will be set up after the finish line. Please be sure to place your chip in the collection box after the race. If your chip is lost or not returned, you will be charged 1,000 yen.
