The May 2020 issue of Forest Recreation, a journal published by the National Forest Recreation Association (headquarters: Tokyo), featured an article by Professor Terutaka Suzuki entitled "Design Strategies for Regional Revitalization (3) Hokuryu Town, Hokkaido."
The May issue features a six-page color introduction to Hokuryu Town. The June issue also includes a message from the Hokuryu Town Office, offering to give sunflower seeds to the first 500 people to arrive as a "sympathy gift for those who are refraining from going out" to cheer up the town.
Professor Suzuki Terutaka is the representative of the local design institute BEENS, a professor emeritus at Edogawa University, and a former specially appointed professor at the Faculty of Economics at Rissho University, where he is involved in regional revitalization across the country.
Additionally, since October 2017, he has been appointed as the "Sunflower Tourism Ambassador for Hokuryu Town, Hokkaido" together with Umehara Makoto of Umehara Design Office (who lives in Kochi Prefecture), and is also working hard to develop a master plan for the town's tourism hub as chairman of the "Sunflower Village Master Plan Development Committee."
