Sapporo Autumn Fest, a Hokkaido food event held in Odori Park (Sapporo City), was held for the first time in three years this year due to the impact of the new coronavirus (※ It was held online from 2020 to 2021).

Sapporo Autumn Fest

The Sapporo Autumn Fest began in 2008 (Heisei 20). This year, 2022 (Reiwa 4), marks the 50th anniversary of the Sapporo-Munich sister city relationship.

This is a major autumn event in Sapporo that will be held for 23 days from Friday, September 9th to Saturday, October 1st at eight venues in Odori Park, from the 4th-chome venue to the 11th-chome venue and the special venue.

Hokuryu Town will be opening a store in the fourth phase of the 8th block venue.

At the 8th block venue, "Sapporo Odori Hokkaido Plaza," approximately 60 booths will be set up by municipalities and organizations from across Hokkaido throughout the event, selling local specialties and promoting their towns.

Each city and town will be opening a stall in four periods, with Hokuryu Town opening a stall over three days during the fourth period: Thursday, September 29th to Saturday, October 1st.

All Hokuryu Plus

From Hokuryu Town, the All Hokuryu Plus participated, including Hokuryu Town Hall, JA Kitasorachi Hokuryu Branch, Hokuryu Town Promotion Corporation, Kurosengoku Business Cooperative, Hokuryu Kenseikai (an association for young and middle-aged men in the construction industry in Hokuryu Town), and students from Rakuno Gakuen University.

Mayor Yutaka Sano came to the event to offer words of encouragement, and Hokuryu Town mascot Himawari Saki-chan also came to support the team, making for a great performance!

At the Hokuryu Town booth, a variety of products will be on sale, including this year's freshly harvested and milled new rice, including sunflower rice, sunflower oil, and Kurosengoku soybeans.

Blessed with fine weather for three days, the venue was packed with families and tourists under the midsummer-like sunshine, and was bustling every day!!!

Wiping the sweat from their brows, the sales staff greeted the steady stream of customers, promoting the town and its local products.

A message from Mr. Yukio Takada, Chairman of the Kurosengoku Soybean Business Cooperative

"Kurosengoku Kinako is an additive-free food that is so good for your body that you forget your age! I'll be 80 next year," said the youthful Director Takada, and the customers looked at each other in surprise.

He went on to say, "Sunflower oil is real oil. It's the first pressing of sunflower seeds, with no additives! There are many oils that contain impurities, but this sunflower oil is the real deal," before introducing the customer to Tamura Masakazu, assistant manager of the Industry Division. "This person is the real deal (an expert)! If you want to know about real oil, ask him." The customer was so impressed that he was convinced and also purchased the Kurosengoku Soybean Sunflower Oil Dressing.

In the afternoon, Mayor Yutaka Sano took time out of his busy schedule to visit the venue to offer encouragement and provide mini rice balls for tasting to the guests. He also provided a wonderful gift for the hard-working staff.

Final day: Day 3 (Saturday, October 1st)

From the morning onwards, the members of Hokuryu Kenseikai worked hard at the support sales! Powerful shouts continued nonstop at the booth. Himawari Saki-chan was also full of energy! Her unique and energetic movements were a big hit!

"The delicious new rice from Hokuryu Town is harvested at the end of the month and milled just in time for this day. This year's autumn harvest is excellent, and it tastes delicious.

This is a scooping event for Hokuryu Town's new rice, Nanatsuboshi. We have over 500 kg of rice prepared in the backyard, so please come and scoop up as much as you like.

For 400 yen, you can scoop out a 5-go measure of rice, which holds about 8 go of new rice, but we will give you more than 8 go as a service.

Fortunately, the agricultural cooperative executives haven't arrived yet, so we can go ahead and enter.
I usually get scolded if I put in too much, but it's still okay to put in today!
Our staff are all young, so you can get started right away!

There were many families with customers, and a little girl climbed onto a stepladder, put on large vinyl gloves, and scooped up the new rice with all her might, yelling "Heave-ho! Heave-ho!", her smile beaming with joy!

We were impressed by the attitude of the staff, who gave their all to the customers who continued to arrive to scoop up new rice, providing careful and sincere hospitality right up until the very end!
