Coach's Story
Yoshiki Miyazaki
Yoshiki Miyazaki (20 years old), a coach for the Kita Sorachi J.B.C. Angels, is in his third year working in the General Affairs Division of Hokuryu Town Hall.
The Kita Sorachi J.B.C. Angels team consists of 25 members from grades 2 to 6. Ten of them are from Hokuryu Town, and they are a mixed team with two girls.
The regular practice field is the Imoseushi Elementary School grounds, held twice a week (Wednesday and Friday) from 4pm to 6pm. In the summer, it runs until 7pm. Matches may also be held on weekends.
When I first started working at the town hall, the team's coach invited me to come and watch baseball practice. When I visited, the coach introduced me to the team members as 'Coach Miyazaki,' and I ended up becoming the coach on the spot (laughs)."
Miyazaki, a native of Uryu Town, played for the Uryu Dragons in elementary school and devoted his time to baseball throughout his junior and senior high school years. Miyazaki Yoshiki's father was a coach for the Uryu Dragons. When Miyazaki was a member of the baseball team at Hokkaido's Takikawa Nishi High School, he led the team to their third appearance at Koshien, their first appearance in 19 years.

We asked Miyazaki about his mindset as a coach.
"As a coach, the most important thing is to think about things and provide guidance from the players' perspective. I have experience as a player, so I am careful not to look down on my players just because I am now a coach.
In the future, I would like to continue with my current coaching style and do my best to coach the players in the direction they want.
"I also want them to grow not only in baseball but also in areas other than baseball, so I hope to be able to actively support them mentally as well," said Miyazaki.
Atsushi Takahashi
We also asked senior coach Jun Takahashi (49 years old) about his thoughts on the youth baseball team.
Jun Takahashi (Secretary General of the Hokuryu Town Council Secretariat) was appointed coach four years ago when the youth baseball teams of Amuro and Hokuryu towns merged.
"Technique is important, but our motto is to be energetic and have fun, so I hope we can develop many players who can liven up the team with their enthusiasm.
The players come from neighboring areas to play, so although there are many challenges, they are gaining valuable experience.
"I hope that in the future, the players will grow up to be cheerful and energetic people, and that I can teach them so that they can function in society even when they become adults. I want them to learn to greet others properly, even if it's just the basics," said Takahashi.
We would like to offer our heartfelt congratulations to the wonderful players of the Kita Sorachi J.B.C. Angels for their glorious victory and remarkable achievement!
With great love, gratitude, and prayers, we send this youth baseball team, made up of young baseball players from all over the region, who undergo rigorous training, unite as a team, and forge ahead toward their goals...
