Today, Tuesday, May 4th, we changed the WordPress theme used by Hokuryu Town Portal.
Version upgrade overview
Last January 2020, the Hokuryu Town Portal's system (CMS) was switched from Google Sites to WordPress, which is used by 60% of websites around the world. The information on Google Sites was converted to HTML and merged with the new WordPress.
Let's compare the upgrade to a house. Last year's upgrade was a result of problems we were having, so we designed and built a new house with high earthquake resistance and performance, and moved in with all of our old belongings.
It was a massive undertaking that involved selecting a construction company, designing and constructing the new building, selecting furniture, and moving in.
This version update
This year's changes could be described as a complete change of furniture in the house. We considered furniture brands with higher functionality. We created a dummy site called a staging site to simulate and test whether the contents of the previous furniture would fit. Then we moved them. We stored all of our previous contents, such as clothing and food, in the new furniture.
What to expect from the upgrade
With the change to the "Theme," you can expect the following:
- The image on the top page can be made larger, making it easier for readers to access information they may want to know.
- The screen layout changes depending on whether you are using a PC, notepad, or smartphone, improving accessibility for readers.
(1) PC: 3 columns for article and sidebar
(2) Notepad: Posted articles only, two columns
(3) Smartphone: Only posted articles, one row - Readers can freely switch between the layout of their posts: wide (1 column), card (2 columns), and normal (1 column).
- The number of page views for each posted article is displayed, allowing you to understand reader needs.
