"Set high goals and do your best," Mayor Sasaki said.

Mayor Sasaki Yasuhiro visited Hokuryu Junior High School to encourage Yoshida Natsuki, who participated as a member of the Hokkaido national team.

"You worked hard at this tournament in Kochi Prefecture. This is a present from Daddy Long Legs to show our support," said Yoshida Natsuki, as he handed her a gift of support.

"Women's baseball is popular in Hokkaido, with teams such as the Kuriyama High School women's baseball team, so set your goals high and do your best. We're always thinking about you," he encouraged her.

We spoke with Natsuki Yoshida

"I started playing baseball in the winter of my first year of elementary school. I think the reason I started playing baseball was because of the influence of my older brother and the people around me.

I played shortstop in the All-Star team. Baseball is a lot of fun. Each of the nine players has a role to play, and it's fun to play together as a team and cooperate with each other.

My favorite baseball player is Nishikawa Haruki (Tokyo Yakult Swallows).

"I haven't decided what I want to do in the future yet. I'm going to think about it carefully," said Yoshida Natsuki, speaking clearly and with a gentle smile.

Shinryu Elementary School Class Observation

Afterwards, the group moved to Shinryu Elementary School, where they observed classes for first, fifth, and sixth graders on Open Day.

  • Acorn Maze (a game where you create a maze out of dead branches and roll an acorn through it)
  • Target game (a game where you throw handmade balls to hit cardboard targets)
  • Plastic Bottle Game (a game where you play musical instruments made from plastic bottles)
  • Kendama (a kendama game in which you put an acorn with a string into four paper cups)

On the landing, there is a games corner with a physical fitness corner (side jumping), a strikeout game, a darts game, a handmade basketball goal (shooting basket), and more, all handmade by the students.

About two years ago, teachers and students started setting up the facility to make effective use of the empty space. It has become a dreamlike playground where students can freely participate and enjoy various games during their breaks!

Mayor Sasaki was very interested, surprised and impressed as he toured the site.
