The solar illuminations at the home of Setsuya Suzuki (72), located near Hekisui Shrine in Hokuryu Town, are celebrating their 10th anniversary this year, and are shining with an even more brilliant and fantastical glow this year.

"This year I was thinking of a 'fantasy theme', but in the end it ended up being 'fairy tale-like'.
The piece I put the most effort into was the central picture. It was painted by Mr. Makino, a farmer living in Hokuryu Town. He is a cat friend of mine, and it was a collaborative work with him. I spent about 60 hours illuminating the picture my friend painted.
This painting is inspired by the "Melody of Love and Peace from Around the World." It depicts the love between a man and a woman, and the Bremen Town Musicians played by horses, dogs, cats, and birds.
The dome-shaped arrangement was completed with the help of a forklift. The dome-shaped illumination was designed to create the image of a round, harmonious flow.
It's all thanks to the people who help out every year. We've been able to create this much thanks to the help of so many friends in various areas. I couldn't have done it alone. I'm very grateful.
This year marks the 10th anniversary, and we have already had about 10 groups of customers who come to see the event say, "This year is different from last year."
"The morning glories that decorate the garden during the day have already grown 4m this year. The vines that grow to over 6m are producing more and more flowers every day, producing neat and pretty flowers," said Suzuki.

During the shoot, we happened to take a commemorative photo with the family of Kazuo Kimura (Kitaryu Assembly member) who had come to see Setsya's illuminations!
