In July 1963, the park was designated as a Shokanbetsu Prefectural Park, and inspired by the establishment of a nearby tourist association, a tourist association was established.

The Sandan Falls in the park was opened as a tourist hiking trail construction project over a two-year period starting in 1967, and runs 13km from Suna Pass (the border between Hokuryu and Mashike towns) on Route 94 Mashike Inada Line to Uryu Numa via Sandan Falls. In 1990, the park was designated as Shokanbetsu-dake Teuri-Yagishiri Quasi-National Park. It is a tourist attraction that widely promotes the natural beauty of the area.

It was previously possible to drive up to Iwanasawa, located 2.4km from the trailhead, but a landslide on the trail within the national forest made it impassable, and the only way to get there is now to walk 3.2km along the Edaibetsu River, making it a remote area. Discussions are planned with Hokuryu Town, Uryu Town, and the Forest Management Office.
