The Hokkaido Shimbun Digital website, operated by the Hokkaido Shimbun newspaper (Sapporo), has published an article (dated January 11th) entitled "Seven Sorachi mayors up for election this year; Iwamizawa mayoral election to be held in August." We would like to introduce this to you.
The article states, "The Hokuryu town mayoral election will be announced on the 30th of this month, with voting scheduled for February 4th. Yutaka Sano (72), currently in his third term, announced at the regular town council meeting in September last year that he would not run. In November of the same year, Kitase Hirokuni (62), representative director of the Hokuryu district of Kitasorachi Agricultural Cooperative, and in December of the same year, Yasuhiro Sasaki (67), who was town council chairman, each announced their intention to run, making this the first election campaign since 2012."
