Notice of cancellation of the 2020 "34th Sunflower Festival" and "56th Hokusho Road Race Tournament"

We would like to inform you of the official document from the Hokuryu Town Office Industry Division and the Hokuryu Town Sports Association regarding the cancellation of the 34th Sunflower Festival in 2020 and the 56th Hokuryu Commercial High School Road Race Tournament.

Cancellation of the 34th Sunflower Festival in 2020

Due to the nationwide spread of COVID-19, we have decided to cancel the 34th Sunflower Festival, which was scheduled to be held from July 18th (Sat) to August 23rd (Sun) this year.

With the declaration of a national state of emergency and the number of COVID-19 infections in Hokkaido on the rise, and the end of the spread of infection not in sight, we have decided to cancel the festival, prioritizing human life and considering the health and safety of our customers and stakeholders. We apologize for the inconvenience, and we ask for your understanding.

It is very unfortunate that we have to cancel the festival, but this cancellation will allow the fields that have produced sunflowers every year for over 30 years to rest, and we would like to spend a year properly preparing the soil so that we can produce even better sunflowers in the future, so we ask for your understanding.

Cancellation of the 56th Hokusho Road Race Tournament in 2020

The Hokusho Road Race Tournament, which is held annually, has usually been held as part of the Sunflower Festival, but due to the cancellation of the entire Sunflower Festival due to the impact of the new coronavirus infection, we have decided to cancel the 56th Hokusho Road Race Tournament, which was scheduled to be held on Sunday, July 19, 2020.

We understand that this is unfortunate for all those who were considering participating, and we ask for your understanding.
