Sompo Himawari Life Insurance Co., Ltd.

Sompo Himawari Life Insurance Inc. (President and CEO: Yasuhiro Oba, hereinafter referred to as "the Company") focused on the "sunflower" in its name, and conducted a survey of 1,000 people across Japan who were considering going out between July and August, when the sunflowers are in full bloom, to find out which "sunflower fields" they would like to visit in the summer of 2022. We are pleased to announce the results of this survey.

1. The most popular sunflower field to visit in the summer of 2022 is "Hokuryu Town Sunflower Village (Hokuryu Town, Hokkaido)"

A survey of 1,000 people across Japan ranked the most popular summer destinations for sunflower fields in 2022. Hokkaido's stunning Hokuryu Town Sunflower Village (Hokuryu Town, Hokkaido) came in first place.

[1st Place] Hokuryu Town Sunflower Village (Hokuryu Town, Hokkaido)

The most popular sunflower field to visit in the summer of 2022 was "Hokuryu Sunflower Village" (255 votes). "Hokuryu Sunflower Field" is one of the largest sunflower fields in Japan, with 2 million sunflowers blooming in a vast field of approximately 23 hectares.

Reasons for choosing it as number one include "because the scale is incomparable (compared to other sunflower fields)" and "because I want to see one of the largest sunflower fields in Japan." The fact that many people want to experience the spectacular scenery that can only be seen in the summer is what helped it rank first.

Hokkaido's summer temperatures are relatively low and comfortable, so many people want to visit the prefecture (see Reference 3 in [Reference Materials]), which is thought to be another reason why it ranked first.

[Second Place] Lake Yamanaka Flower Park (Minamitsuru District, Yamanashi Prefecture)

Coming in second place is Lake Yamanaka Hana no Miyako Park (183 votes). This sunflower field is home to approximately 160,000 sunflowers, with Mount Fuji in the background.

Reasons given include "you can enjoy Mt. Fuji and the sunflower fields at the same time" and "it would look great in photos with Mt. Fuji in the background against the sunflower fields." Many people want to see the spectacular view of Mt. Fuji and the sunflower fields that can only be seen here at this time of year, which is why it ranked second.

Additionally, this sunflower field received 30 votes from people living in the Kanto region and 44 votes from people living in the Koshinetsu region (see Reference 2 in [Reference Materials]). Many respondents said that it was "easy to get to with the family" and "it looks like it would be fun even on a day trip," making it clear that it is a popular destination for short family outings.

[3rd Place] Nakayama Sunflower Complex (Nakatado District, Kagawa Prefecture)

Coming in third place is Nakayama Sunflower Complex (96 votes). This sunflower field is home to over 310,000 blooming sunflowers, with a view of the Asan Mountains. Reasons given for its third place include, "I lived nearby but didn't know about it, so I wanted to go."

2. If people were to go to a sunflower field in the summer of 2022, the majority of respondents said they would like to enjoy the spectacular summer scenery with their family.

Along with the rankings, we also surveyed people's attitudes towards sunflower fields. First, we asked who they would like to go to a sunflower field with if they were to go in the summer of 2022, and the top answer was family (623 votes).

The reasons given were "because I think my children would enjoy it" and "I want to show it to my children," and it turns out that many people want to enjoy sunflower fields, a summer tradition that anyone can enjoy, with their families.

Another reason for its ranking as number one is that it can be enjoyed by people who want to go out with their families for the first time in a while, for example, because "we haven't been able to go out as a family because of COVID-19."
