On Tuesday, September 7th, the sake rice harvest began in the Furusaku area! This year, the harvest took place about a week earlier than last year.
At the Furusaku Rice Center, two farmers, Yasunori Watanabe and Mamoru Hoshiba, cultivate over three hectares of sake rice.
In the bustling rice fields, four combine harvesters are working at full capacity in a serious competition! The sake rice harvesting work will be completed in one day today.
Sake rice is dried more slowly than regular rice, so after harvesting it is dried for about a day and a half in the dryer at the rice center. The sake rice "Suisei" is brewed at Kinteki Shuzo (Shintotsukawa Town) to create the special junmai sake "Hokuryu Suisei." We are looking forward to this year's "Hokuryu Suisei."
The first shipment of rice from the 2021 harvest will take place on Friday, September 10th at the JA Kitasorachi Kitaryū Branch Agricultural Product Collection and Shipping Facility.
