2021 [COVID-19 Countermeasures] Hokuryu Town Disaster Prevention Radio: Cancellation of all events at the 35th Sunflower Festival and Closure of the Tourist Center

Friday, June 4, 2021

We will report on the content (a recording of Mayor Sano's voice) that was broadcast on Hokuryu Town's disaster prevention radio (broadcast to every household and speaker in Hokuryu Town) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 4, 2021.

Message from Mayor Yutaka Sano of Hokuryu Town

We ask each and every resident to cooperate in preventing infection.

Currently, a state of emergency has been declared in Hokkaido until Sunday, June 20th.

With the number of infected people in Hokkaido remaining high, the spread of mutant strains, and numerous clusters occurring in the Sorachi region, the situation is still not clear when it will be resolved.

Vaccinations are being carried out smoothly within the town, but we would like to once again ask each and every resident to cooperate in preventing infectious diseases.

The 35th Sunflower Festival: All events canceled. The tourist center is closed.

Planting at Sunflower Village has already been completed, but with regard to this year's Sunflower Festival, we have decided to cancel all events and close the tourist center in order to prioritize human life and to avoid the risk of infection for tourists and other related parties.

We are extremely sorry and regretful about this decision, but we ask for your understanding.
