Planting of the Yellow Small Watermelon No. 2 "Sunflower Watermelon" has begun at the farm of Takada Co., Ltd. (CEO Takada Shunki)!<\/p>\n

This small yellow watermelon has a high water content among watermelons and a refreshing sweetness.<\/p>\n

The story of Akimitsu Takada<\/h2>\n

We spoke with Akimitsu Takada (Takada Co., Ltd.) despite his busy schedule. Takada has been growing watermelons for some time, but after a 10-year break, he has started growing watermelons again. He has also been appointed chairman of the Hokuryu Town Sunflower Watermelon Association again this year.<\/p>\n

"We will remove seedlings from their nursery pots and plant them in planting holes 1m apart from one end of the ridges in nine 100m greenhouses. There will be 200 seedlings per greenhouse. We expect to harvest about 10 seeds from each plant, so the total harvest will be around 18,000 seeds. The harvest season will be from mid-June to late August.<\/p>\n

Agriculture as a whole will undergo major changes over the next 10 years. The declining population will undoubtedly change not only agricultural practices but also rice cultivation methods.<\/p>\n

We are currently considering ways to continue farming and pass it on to the next generation. We are working to build an overall picture of agriculture, considering what it will be like 10 to 15 years from now.<\/p>\n

"Furthermore, based on the government's farmland development promotion project, we are considering taking advantage of the system to improve land in poor conditions and preserve good land. We are working hard to think about how to pass on agriculture to the next generation," said Akimitsu Takada with great confidence.<\/p>\n

"I joined Takada Co., Ltd. as a part-timer in March and started as a trainee on April 1st.<\/p>\n

The reason I came to Hokuryu Town was because I was introduced to the town by Mr. Sakuraba, a new farmer promoter in Hokuryu Town, at a new farmer fair.<\/p>\n

When I came to Hokuryu Town, I felt a sense of nostalgia and connection, as the scenery resembled that of my mother's hometown in Niigata.<\/p>\n

From now on, I would like to gain a variety of experiences as a trainee," she said with a smile.
