Sunday, February 4th is "Risshun," which marks the beginning of spring and the start of the year according to the 24 solar terms!<\/p>\n

On Setsubun, the day before the beginning of spring, I had Ehomaki (a type of ehomaki roll) from Himawari Restaurant. The direction in which Toshitokujin, the god who governs the year's good fortune, is located is called Eho. This year's Eho is east-northeast.<\/p>\n

On Setsubun, people throw beans to ward off evil spirits, then face northeast, the lucky direction, and silently take a bite of an ehomaki!<\/p>\n

Eating sushi rolls that bring good fortune, people pray for good health.<\/p>\n
